Agriculture accounts for around 5% of Suriname\'s GDP and 7,4% of its exports. Fishery has the largest contribution followed by rice. 80% of all fish, shrimp and bananas are exported whereas with rice this is 50%. Around 12.600 families work directly in the sector.
